On the Clock: Washington Redskins (#13 Overall)

Needs: OL, DL

The Skins have playmakers on both sides of the ball, but not a lot of talent in the trenches on both lines. In order for QB Jason Campbell to develop as a leader, he needs a stronger offensive line. Despite the arrival of DE Jason Taylor last season, the Redskins defensive line as been lackluster. The Redskins defensive line only notched 19 sacks in 2008! That’s just sad…

Choice #1: Everette Brown, DE, Florida State

After releasing All-Pro DE Jason Taylor on March 2nd, the Redskins need to do something about their poor excuse for a defensive line. In a defensive end rich draft class, the Skins should target Everette Brown at the 13th spot. At 6 foot 4 and 256 pounds, Brown has a solid combination of size and speed. Oh and he can pass rush pretty darn well. In 2008, Brown recorded 13 sacks, including 3 games where he recorded 3 sacks or more. Brown is a good fit for a team that needs a pulse on their defensive line. In his three years at Florida State, Brown only missed one game, and that was as a freshman. Brown is only a junior, which means he is a more raw of talent and could require a year or two to develop.

Choice #2: Andre Smith, OL, Alabama

If Everette Brown seems too much like a risk, the Redskins will look to improve their offensive line. Andre Smith was hailed as a potential number one overall pick in late December of 2008. However, after a poor outing at the combine and some off the field issues that sidelined him for Alabama’s bowl game, Smith’s stock has fallen. Smith still carries a helluva lot of talent and has NFL size at 6 foot 4, 330 pounds. The question still remains: who wants to take a chance on this guy? Maybe Washington…
